Security for data connections in fibre-optic line structures by bypassing failed components

To reach all participants in a fiber optic line structure, active components with two fiber optic ports each are used.

If one device fails, the connection to all subsequent nodes is also lost.

In fiber optic networks, an optical bypass helps in this situation.

If
  a predefined voltage is undershot, or
  in the event of a complete power failure or
  a signaling line changes state
the optical signal is redirected from the incoming fiber optic line to the outgoing fiber optic line within a few milliseconds.

This bypasses the node, that is out of service.

Once operating conditions are restored, the network node is reintegrated into the line without operator intervention.

To prevent the connection from being interrupted during the restart of the affected component, the termination of the bypass can be delayed by up to 75 seconds.

Wartung
The system not only provides protection against interruption of data transmission via the fiber optic lines due to defects or power outages in data nodes, but also allows for decommissioning for maintenance or conversion purposes without interrupting the line.

redundanter Ring
Even a redundant ring can fail if maintenance work on one node is followed by a failure on another node, or if several network nodes are affected by special weather events.

keine Einschränkung
Since the bridging is protocol-neutral, it can be used for both Ethernet lines and all fieldbus systems with an optical line structure.
